Marvel Pull List - Week of June 3rd, 2015

I started lining everything up for this week's Marvel post without a clue about what to write in this very space.  I was even considering throwing up the disclaimer and going with a quickie, (as cheap as that is), and then I noticed a $500 book in the list.  Wow!  Now I've got something to write about...after I research....

Ok, this is the way to become a Secret Wars expert.  This book contains 11 volumes that have both of the original Secret Wars and the Nick Fury lead Secret Wars event from the mid-2000's; all, (yes ALL), of the tie-ins for all three events and some alternate take material, (a Spider-Man centric look at the first Secret War), plus a poster by Alex Ross. Hands down, without a doubt, this gets the Hardcover Highlight of the week.  It's like an omnibus on steroids!!  The contents are as follows, and all in Premier Hardcover, (which is nicer than normal hardcover, I guess):

  • MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS: TO BATTLEWORLD AND BACK

  • MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS

  • THING: BATTLEWORLD

  • SECRET WARS II VOL. 1-4

  • MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS AFTERMATH

  • SECRET WARS

  • BEYOND THE SECRET WARS

  • MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS: BEHIND THE SCENES

  • POSTER - Alex Ross' version of the Secret Wars #1 cover

!!!DISCLAIMER!!!

All of this information is suggested. Sometimes books get delayed, sometimes they get cancelled all together. Most of the time the trades will be available. Prices are also suggested and subject to change at the discretion of the shop owner or the publisher themselves.

And hey, if you like what I'm doing tell your friends!  Give me a link, name drop me, plus 1 the posts on Google+ - it all helps.  And if you REALLY like me, (doubtful), then follow me on Twitter @TiberiusTaylor or just click this LINK.  Also, I started a Facebook group for those of us who aren't in to Twitter.  Thanks to everyone who does read, it means a lot - here's a bonus image to get you all fired up!

("Don't struggle, Hulk.  I just want to give you your wildest dreams.")

Venom By Rick Remender - The Complete Collection Vol. 1

The first of two planned volumes collecting Rick Remender's version of Venom.  It's Flash Thompson wearing the symbiote this time around and he appears to be working with the government, which doesn't necessarily mean he's always doing the right thing.  He's a soldier who's following orders...in a Venom suit.  This collection also includes a What If...? tale where Deadpool bonds with the symbiote.  I'm sure that will be ridiculous.

SRP: $34.99
Contains: Venom (2011) #1-12 and What If...? Venom Deadpool
CRD: June 23rd, 2015

Marvel Universe - Ant-Man Digest

This actually seems like it's aimed more at children, collecting a lot of issues from Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and no doubt designed to get them excited for the upcoming feature film.  Marvel also released a hardcover prose novel featuring Ant-Man to try and get the more literary crowd interested in the new movie.  I'm sure this is just the beginning of books featuring Hank Pym that we'll see this summer.

SRP: $9.99
Contains: Marvel Adventures Super Heroes (1st Series) #6 and 10, Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes  #17, and material from AVENGERS: EARTH'S MIGHTIEST HEROES #4 and SUPER HEROES #19
CRD: June 23rd, 2015

  1. I'm looking forward to checking out that Venom collection. I read the first issue when it came out -- and wrote a response to some of editor Steve Wacker's comments in the letters page, actually (http://with-great-power.blogspot.com/2011/03/some-thoughts-on-collecting-venom.html) -- but I never followed up with it, though it was a decent read.

I think we'll be seeing another Ant-Man trade next week (not focused on Hank Pym, though) with Ant-Man: Scott Lang. I'm sort of interested in it, but its contents look a bit scattered.

    1. Marvel has a habit of releasing unfocused trades leading up to film releases. They just want to try and give the noobs some general, blanket background info, I guess.
